LIVE WORKS is a platform dedicated to live contemporary practices that contribute to deepening and broadening the idea of performance, following the current evolution of performance and its styles. This platform aims to measure the concreteness of performance art in the real world, investigating the double nature of “live” - in person and alive - highlighting those moments in which performance integrates with the dynamics of life.
LIVE WORKS conceives performance both as a working space as well as a cultural tool, with a particular focus on “alive” artistic researches disregarding of their original discipline. The platform supports and produces hybrid researches with the aim of emphasizing the open and fluid nature of the performative, as well as its social and political implication and its public cognizability.
Each year a new working team is structured through the open call LIVE WORKS | Performance Act Award, offering a creative residency in the month of July to nine selected projects. The production of the projects during the residency takes place through diverse curatorial typologies, from technical development to theoretical support. The projects are encouraged to engage with a territory that has consciously embraced the desire of contemporary visual languages to move towards live practices and the production strategies typical of experimental theatre. Furthermore, LIVE WORKS provides a theoretical program: THE FREE SCHOOL OF PERFORMANCE.The program consists of daily studio visits, collective critical sessions, reading groups and discussions on specific themes towards the redefinition of the concept of performance, film screenings and informal encounters supporting the production of each project.
